There is no doubt that the best times to visit the area are in Spring and Autumn. But, compared with northern Europe, Spring (February to April) starts early and Autumn (August to late October) finishes late. However, there is also good birding at all times of the year. May and June bring breeding Little Terns and Collared Pratincoles and from October, as well as a few late departing Summer visitors, you can probably find most, if not all, of the waders on the Spanish list.
From your private apartment you can be in the Odiel by car in just over ten minutes where, especially in Spring and Autumn, in addition to the waders you will find three or more species of tern, a variety of gulls including Mediterranean and Audouin's, Collared Pratincoles, Stone Curlews and passing migrants including wheatears, larks and warblers along with the resident Flamingos, breeding Spoonbill and raptors such as Marsh, Montagu's and Hen Harriers, Osprey and all three Kites plus the chance of Golden Eagle to name but a few.
In terms of the more exotic-looking you should, at the appropriate time of the year, see Bee-eaters, Red-rumped Swallow and, in the Donana itself, hundred of White Storks along with Black Storks, and just about every one of the heron family including Night Heron, Squacco Heron, Cattle, Great White and Little Egret, Glossy Ibis and Little Bittern. Again, find the approriate pool and you might well be rewarded with ducks such as Marbled, Ferruginous, White-headed and Long-tailed. At the Dehesa de Abajo there are breeding Spanish Sparrows and both the long-since introduced Yellow-crowned Bishop and Black-headed Weaver.
The relatively short journey to the Potuguese border will enable you to visit the Castro Marim reserve which is well known for holding Lesser Short-toed Larks. The surrounding and neighbouring salinas produce a range of birds that make this journey worth the drive - and you get to cross the high bridge over the Guardiana and have the chance to visit Portugal itself.

You may wish to consider one of these venues - all very convenient to all the birding sites
